Edgar Allen is a screen writer who came to Hollywood to sell his movie, only to have horrible luck and a horrible job as a janitor at a cheap hotel.
When he starts writing his horror novel about an ingenious serial killer, the murders start actully happening, leaving him guessing who is committing the murders ! And when the killer is revealed, you wont believe your eyes !
The acting is wonderful, the story is fantastic, the box art is wonderful, and I even think that Paul Bartel had a brief cameo in this ! A must see for every Troma fan !

So bad it's hilarious!

This isn't a movie where the actors are playing it straight and it comes off stupid. These folks are playing it for yucks from scene 1. It's wonderful. I paused the movie to write this and I can't wait to get back. This is great. Might be worth buying.

This video is a lengthy "interview" with a guy claiming to have been at Area 51... it's a great promotion for his ficitonal books, but it's essentially just silliness about aliens and an enlisted USAF weatherman who apparently was given complete freedom to interact with aliens without supervision by his superiors in the military ("none of this is classified" - oh really?). I could go on and on and on about how silly this is. But, if you are interested in the interviewee's fictional books, this makes for great backstory.

I will comment only on the inaccurate and fairly misleading synopsis and illustration to this interview. It's obvious they (author of descriptive cover comments) didn't watch or listen to this interview. A hollywood sensationalist, or perhaps a publishing house ersatz pundit who cares not for accuracy, or concise descriptive text.
Be that as it may, this is an interesting narrative with many seemingly innocuous observations which to me validate this fellow is telling the truth. The most unbelievable statements he makes concern his briefings and mission orders. I could be way off (wouldn't be the first time) and this is a reverse-disinformation psy-op by a poor brainwashed likeable ol' boy. Three stars for common sense and calm delivery. He makes many good points about human nature. I ask others to decide for themselves...and do not limit yourself to this poorly produced interview in searching for ET truth.

I GOT SHOTGUN

Cooper (Reese Witherspoon) is a "hyper-focus" policewoman. She is allowed to leave the evidence locker to escort a reluctant high value witness (Sofía Vergara) to Dallas. Circumstances causes their plans to go awry and they become on the run, trying to avoid both criminals and cops who want them dead.

The movie is cute, but not an over powering comedy. The jokes get old fast such as Sofia's age and Witherspoon's height. Sofia wear a shirt which says "Butter my Biscuits" for much of the film while Reese boasts a red dress. They shared a kissing scene and a cat fight because that is what the writers had to stoop to to get laughs. The film had potential as Reese got to use a full southern accent, but the script flopped.

Guide: F-bomb in soundtrack. No sex or nudity.

Entertaining enough but fell short

To he honest I was a bit disappointed by this movie, I mean sure it was entertaining enough that I watch the whole thing but it wasn't anything memorable. I love Reese Witherspoon and she is such a talented actress, that's why I even decided to try this movie out. I was pretty upset with it because its suppose to be a comedy but I didn't really laugh much. I hope that the next movie she stars in will be a little bit more memorable and fun.

Better than I expected & I did laugh quite a bit. A good choice for a movie when all you want is to relax and be entertained by

When she is told she must escort Daniella Riva (Vergara) to Dallas in order for her to testify she is excited about finally getting a real job. Things immediately change and now her and Daniella are fugitives and it is up to Cooper to expose what is going on and keep Daniella safe. I wasn't really looking forward to this because I am not a Sofía Vergara fan at all. I was expecting something that tries to hard to be funny, like her but falls flat and is boring. I got something in the middle. The movie was much funnier than I expected, but on the other hand is nothing all that amazing and I thought The Heat was better. This is a movie that isn't a bad watch and is something you can put in and laugh at without having to think too much. Every once in a while that is a needed...

Elsa Lanchester is brilliant as the nurse for the acerbic barrister, newly home from the hospital after suffering a heart attack; nevertheless, he continues to smoke cigars and drink brandy whenever he can be skillful enough to hide them from the ever watchful Miss Plimsill (Lanchester). Tyrone Power is superb as the charming, disingenuous ne'er-do-well, unable to settle down after the War, and inventing egg beaters that beat AND separate the yolk from the white, and other dubious household necessities. Entertaining Trial Movie That Still Holds Up
This is one of the best "trial movies" ever made. It's an outstanding film that is just as good today as it was almost 50 years ago when it was released in the theaters. The shocking ending caused quite a stir back then, too.

The only part of the movie I thought looked dated and unrealistic was Tyrone Power's character being able to interrupt the trial with outbursts and not be reprimanded for it. There is no way that would be tolerated, at least today.

Otherwise, it's a pretty solid film with a good cast that includes two fascinating characters played by actors who know how to entertain: Charles Laughton and Marlene Dietrich.

Laughton, who plays Power's defense attorney, grabs the spotlight in the story but Dietrich almost steals the movie in her role as Power's wife. Laughton's dialog is terrific throughout, bringing a number of laughs to this serious film. He's just a joy to watch. Dietrich is even more riveting but just doesn't have anywhere near...

taut, emotional drama with lots of action and brilliant acting, too
The Love Light is an excellent Mary Pickford vehicle that packs incredible amounts of action and adventure into the total running time of 89 minutes. This taut drama focuses on the life and times of Angela Carlotti (Mary Pickford) just before the First World War, during the war and thereafter. The acting is rather good although there are a few times when some of their "faces" are exaggerated; and the plot held my attention every step of the way. The music that goes along with the film could have been better but it doesn't truly lessen the value of the film.

When the action begins, Angela Carlotti is seen with her brothers Mario (Eddie Phillips) and Antonio (Jean De Briac). They tease the amorous Giovanni (Raymond Bloomer) who pines away for Angela even though she does not return his love. Unfortunately, war breaks out and Angela's two brothers go to serve much to Angela's chagrin.

The Love Light is a good Mary Pickford film with an interesting story. It is set in Italy during the First World War. Pickford plays Angela and shows, with this role, that her acting was not at all limited in scope. The standard image of `Little Mary' is of someone who always played cute girls, as if she was some sort of silent Shirley Temple. Granted there were a fair number of little girl roles in Pickford's career, but there were also many films, like The Love Light, where she played fully realised adult characters. But whether playing children or adults, she always made the audience care about her. This ability to evoke sympathy is the secret to Pickford's acting and the reason why her films can still be such a wonderful emotional experience. As Angela she has moments of great comedy, including a very funny dance sequence, but what makes this role so special is the dramatic acting. Pickford shows the despair of wartime life. A scene where she almost descends into madness is truly...

This release gives us a film, not just with America's Sweetheart, but written and DIRECTED by Frances Marion who wrote more screenplays than any other woman in screen history. It's a wonderful love story about a woman who falls in love with a stray (AWOL) soldier who she thinks is American. But he turns out to be German. Not a comedy. Nice print, nicely restored. The musical accompaniment starts out quite nice and eventually nearly drove me crazy. But you can always turn it off. The film is worth it.....

Psychodrama is less accomplished than the director's previous films
An Iranian man named Ahmad (Ali Mosaffa) arrives in France to sign the divorce papers to his French former wife, Marie (played by Berenice Bejo, who was lovely as Poppy in The Artist). He is surprised that Marie wants him to stay in her house instead of booking him into a hotel. But he is more surprised when he learns that he will share that house not only with Marie and her three children (from a previous marriage), but also with her current lover, the Arab Amir (Tahar Rahim). Soon Ahmad learns that Marie's elder daughter, Lucie (Pauline Burlet) hates her, blaming her for the attempted suicide of Amir's wife, who is in a coma. Not going to tell more about the plot, but we are less than halfway into the film, and many more shocking revelations will occur.

This is the fourth film by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi that I have seen (after A Separation, About Elly, and Fireworks Wednesday). All his movies have a remarkably similar structure. We have a few people interacting,...
A nice movie from a great director

I really enjoyed the film, the story has twist here and there. It shows how complex the relations in a family can become from different marriage where kids are also involved.

Complex, interesting film

This is all about relationships, and treats them with a depth that adds interest to the film. It's about moms and daughters, husbands and wives (and exes), fathers and sons, and is woven in a way that it doesn't feel contrived. It's interesting to contemplate how a person's insertion into others' lives can change the dynamic for a family. Also, the assumptions one can make that may have no basis in reality, yet can destroy relationships.

The film is set in "unadorned" Paris, the acting is lovely, and the subtitles don't feel intrusive. This film will leave you thinking.

Dietrich played french ladies of dubious reputation so often, and to such great effect, its no wonder they loved her, and that she died in Paris. Remember her as Bijou Blanche in SEVEN SINNERS?
Here, in Renee Clair's confection, she has Ward Bond/Bruce Cabot to play against. Now, whether or not she ever had Bond/Cabot, as she had most of her other leading men, we'll never know. But, from the lack of sparkle in their duets together, probably not. On the other hand... Oh, well. It was wartime, and really sexy, really attractive leading men were scarce.
But, this is a mistaken identity antibellum movie, in which Dietrich plays (or almost plays) two different women. (Not to worry: Nothing psychological. Its all a misunderstanding.) We can tell one from another because one has bangs, and the other doesn't.
What's the difference? Its a parade of costumes. It could just as easily have been a vehicle for May West. Or some off-Broadway concoction for drag queans...
Screwball Dietrich!

The Flame of New Orleans is an interesting film for Dietrich. It is a costume picture, but it is a comedy, something one would expect to see Carole Lombard in. It revolves around a gold digger (Dietrich) who masquerades as a Countess with the help of her maid (Theresa Harris) in order to secure a wealthy husband. She has had quite a past and when the man she is planning to marry (Roland Young) learns of her reputation, she pretends she has a twin cousin (see, it's really funny) to throw him off. In the meantime, a poor sailor who she almost has an encounter with learns of her secret and plans to use it to his advantage (Bruce Cabot).

It might seem like a strange film for Dietrich to star in, but she is really quite funny in this movie. She is coy and beautiful with many different costumes to wear. Her supporting cast is great too. The brilliant scenery provides a lush background for these actors to create a very good comedy.

DAMN IT ASBJORN. I' M A WARRIOR NOT A CLIMBER!
A small boat full of exiled Vikings get marooned on Scotland, which doesn't want them either. Asbjorn (Tom Hopper) leads the group who happen to defeat a troop of soldiers and capture the princess (Charlie Murphy) the film's sole eye candy. They plan to ransom her off to her father for enough money to buy their way into a Viking settlement in the south. The plans go bad when they find out the rescue army wants to kill the princess, which they claim are the orders of the King. The Vikings are aided by a fighting monk (Ryan Kwanten) with a staff. Oh yes the princess can read the ground too. Ed Skrein leads the Scots who appear to be one chromosome away from Orcs.

The film consists of Vikings running away from Scots, getting caught by Scots, fighting Scots and running away from Scots. The love story doesn't develop. The fight scenes weren't bad, but not memorable. Acting isn't bad for people who grunt.

Do not watch this as a serious Viking lore movie. Watch it as a Vikings/Conan film. So much of Middle Earth and the old Conan style fantasy is present and glorious. Plus one of the towers in the movie looks like a tower in skyrim. This is DnD, with a perfect party. Monk/Cleric, Magic User or Druid, a few fighters a barbarian, thief and ranger. Watch it with the right mindset and this thing is Gold.

The Love Light is an excellent Mary Pickford vehicle that packs incredible amounts of action and adventure into the total running time of 89 minutes. This taut drama focuses on the life and times of Angela Carlotti (Mary Pickford) just before the First World War, during the war and thereafter. The acting is rather good although there are a few times when some of their "faces" are exaggerated; and the plot held my attention every step of the way. The music that goes along with the film could have been better but it doesn't truly lessen the value of the film.

When the action begins, Angela Carlotti is seen with her brothers Mario (Eddie Phillips) and Antonio (Jean De Briac). They tease the amorous Giovanni (Raymond Bloomer) who pines away for Angela even though she does not return his love. Unfortunately, war breaks out and Angela's two brothers go to serve much to Angela's chagrin.

A Fine Pickford Performance
The Love Light is a good Mary Pickford film with an interesting story. It is set in Italy during the First World War. Pickford plays Angela and shows, with this role, that her acting was not at all limited in scope. The standard image of `Little Mary' is of someone who always played cute girls, as if she was some sort of silent Shirley Temple. Granted there were a fair number of little girl roles in Pickford's career, but there were also many films, like The Love Light, where she played fully realised adult characters. But whether playing children or adults, she always made the audience care about her. This release gives us a film, not just with America's Sweetheart, but written and DIRECTED by Frances Marion who wrote more screenplays than any other woman in screen history. It's a wonderful love story about a woman who falls in love with a stray (AWOL) soldier who she thinks is American. But he turns out to be German. Not a comedy. Nice print, nicely restored. The musical accompaniment starts out quite nice and eventually nearly drove me crazy. But you can always turn it off. The film is worth it.....
