The fuse has been lit! Screen legends Jeff Bridges (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot) and Tommy Lee Jones (The Package) light a fuse under this action-packed tension-filled, edge-of-the-seat thriller that will hold you hostage for 120 electrifying minutes. Fueled with dynamic support by Lloyd Bridges (Hot Shots), Forest Whitaker (Species) and Suzy Amis (The Usual Suspects), Blown Away is the action film you don't want to miss… when an explosion jolts Boston, bomb squad expert Jimmy Dove (Bridges) is thrust into the most harrowing work of his career. Evidence points to a bomber more dangerous and skilled than any he's ever faced - except one. The possibility that the terrorist is his former mentor (Jones) increases the stakes - and as his friends and family are unsuspectingly drawn into the action, Jimmy is forced to face not only his bitter enemy... but also his haunting past. Stylish and suspenseful direction by Stephen Hopkins, the director of The Ghost and the Darkness and Predator 2.
Special Features: Audio Commentary by Director Stephen Hopkins, The Making of Blown Away: A Day in the Life of the Bomb Squad, "Take Me Home" Music Video, Trailer

Review :
It is easy to say, this flim will blow you away!
Tommy Lee Jones is at his insane and malevolent-genius best as Ryan Garrity, an escaped I.R.A. bomber. He has the film's most chilling line, when he calls Jeff Bridges and says "I've come to create a new country called chaos, and a new government called anarchy."
Great special effects, not in the bombs but the close ups of everyday devices we see (?) Garrity use to make his weapons. When the phone is reconnected, or the oven ignited, we know that a huge conflagration will follow. It is fascinating, and among the more gripping scenes of the movie.
Why the "pros' dog this out is beyond me. Neither it nor Jones are wacky. It is more spellbinding that just the reviews suggest.
The music of U-2 makes a great backdrop to the impending action. Forrest Whittaker and Lloyd Bridges make great supporting cast members.

NONE BETTER
Even though there's only one 1-star review of this movie, I still saw a number of reviews that say that Blown Away has little or no plot and is mainly just action/explosions. Those reviews couldn't be farther from the truth.
Blown Away teaches a valuable lesson: its ok to put a friendship at stake if its for a good cause. When Jeff Bridges left Belfast, Northern Ireland and changed his name, it was after his former friend, played by Tommy Lee Jones, was put away in Castle Gleigh prison in Northern Ireland. It seems unrealistic to see Jones' character ever breaking out AND finding Bridges, but he uses his own talent with building explosive devices to escape prison and he spots Bridges, whose name changes from Liam McGivney to Jimmy Dove on the screen.
Without spoiling anything, Tommy Lee Jones' character, Ryan Gaerity, does kill friends of Jimmy Dove, and the deaths are followed by very well-crafted scenes that seem to convey the emotion, pain and suffering of Bridges very...
Somewhat slow but entertaining nevertheless...
I very much enjoyed this film which I consider more of a drama/thriller than a pure action romp. Tommy Lee Jones is very hammy as a sadistic Irish bomber who likes to get things done loudly and violently. Jeff Bridges' Irish accent is terrible but I really enjoyed his character. I consider this one of the few action movies I've seen where I actually care about what happens to the characters and sympathize with their weaknesses. I also appreciate the fact that the movie gives the viewer time to breathe in-between exploding set pieces, (which are all well done). Something isn't going "Boom!" every ten minutes and the violence isn't that bad for an "R" rated movie. Largely an ignored piece of work which is too bad. It deserved better.

Review :
Great movie, but a really poor transfer from MGM
Kind of surprising that such a popular and entertaining film, with a good cast, clever story and fun effects, is givin such a poor transfer. It seems to be from the old laser disc. The picture is flat and murky and to me looks much like the VHS copy I had already owend. Again, a really fun entertaining film, but don't expect normal DVD quality on this one.

not your average Joe getting involved in the extremely dangerous
You have a special effects guy (Brown) that everyone knows is a genius, the best alive. He is fine and busy professionally, then is asked to do a public service for the FBI, whose team of operatives have a supreme mafia baddie they want to "kill" for purposes of witness protection. There is also a difficult, embittered cop (Dennehy) out to get the mafia baddie after having spent much of his career chasing him. Suddenly the f/x guy finds himself in way over his head, in danger of getting killed himself but unsure who, if anyone, he can trust. What does he do? He plots a revenge in just the way that throws everyone off by their assumptions, their perceptions, such as the sounds that he can emit in a house to make people think he isn't where he is or the mirror he sets up in a doorway. Perfect illusions, but used in ways that nobody would be able to guess - unless they had time to think instead of immediately react. And it is executed to perfection.

This is a promising...
A lot of fun
F/X was one of my favorite thriller of the '80s, a genuinely fun action film that takes itself just seriously enough to make its story credible but at the same time remains blissfully free of the delusions of grandeur that have led to so many overproduced, ultimately empty headed and painfully dull "thrillers" over the past couple of years. In short, F/X is the type of unpretentious, engaging film that could never be made by a Michael Bay or most of the other directors produced out of the Jerry Bruckhiemer School For Technocrats Who Like To Blow Things Up Real Good.
The always underrated australian actor, Bryan Brown, plays Rollie -- an independent special effects artist who specializes in creating gore effects for cheap horror and action films. Indeed, when we first meet him, he is working on a film that bares a hilarious resemblance to Brian DePalma's Scarface which, whatever its qualities, is most definitely represenative of the type of film that F/X strives not to become...

Review :
Truck turns em' out - dig it!
Isaac Hayes plays an ex football star turned bounty hunter named Mac "Truck" Turner. After he and his partner kill a violent pimp named "Gator", all the pimps get together and a contract is put out on Truck by none other than Gator's woman (Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols). When all the little fish fail to kill Truck, the biggest pimp of them all, Harvard Blue (Homicide's Yaphet Kotto) makes an offer to have it done but for a big price. Does he succeed? What do you think?
Director Johnathan Kaplan's (Unlawful Entry) "Truck Turner" is a great part of the blaxploitation genre and of action films in general. Isaac Hayes makes a great action hero and I wish he had made more films like this. Isaac and his band also provide for one of the funkiest soundtracks ever, maybe more funky than the one he composed for "Shaft". The film is exciting from beginning to end and Truck finds time to romance his lady and to make some jokes in between. One of the funniest scenes is when Truck and his...
IKE BRINGS THE THUNDER IN THIS FLICK!!
Truck Turner caught me off guard, I thought I was in for just another Shaft/Super Fly type of movie but man was I mistaken! Good action, seasoned actors and a good plot along with Isaac's commanding performance makes this an awesome flick! I highly recommend the sound track also, can u dig it?

A Top-Notch Blaxploitation Flick!
When I bought this DVD, I was expecting a run-of-the-mill blaxploitation movie. It turned out to be much more! Isaac Hayes is smooth & tough as Truck Turner, a no-nonsense bounty hunter. I'm surprised that Hayes didn't a make many more movies like this. He's more interesting than some of the better-known blaxploitation stars. I'd rank this near the top of the heap (a notch or two below movies like SHAFT and ACROSS 110th STREET). This is a great choice if you're looking for a good shoot-em-up . . . with an attitude!

The Front Page [Blu-ray] Promo Offer

This unique thing provides surpasses own anticipation, this one has chaned into a fantastic buy for personally, The idea came securely and also swiftly The Front Page [Blu-ray]

Raucous, irreverent, and remarkably funny, THE FRONT PAGE is a landmark in cinema history a brilliantly orchestrated, high-speed satire that set the standard for the countless screwball comedies that followed in its wake. But few films can match the risqué flavor and the relentless pace of the masterpiece that spawned an entire genre, earning Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Adolphe Menjou), and Best Director (Lewis Milestone), as well as a spot on the esteemed National Film Registry.

Based on the wildly successful (and controversial) play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, THE FRONT PAGE follows hard-boiled crime reporter Hildy Johnson (Pat O Brien) who has vowed to quit the business and marry his new sweetheart (Mary Brian). But when a political radical (George E. Stone) escapes from custody on the eve of his hanging, the reporter s room is plunged into comedic chaos, and Hildy s brash editor (Menjou) sees it as an opportunity to manipulate the reporter into staying.

Review :
BEWARE: AVOID MIRACLE PICTURES VERSION AT ALL COST!!!!!!
DON'T BUY THE MIRACLE PICTURES VERSION OF 'THE FRONT PAGE.' It's unwatchable. Even at $.01 (from an amazon seller) plus postage, it's a rip-off. Picture jumps; sound is atrocious! Dialogue? Forget it. P.T. Barnum is (erroneously) credited with saying "There's a sucker born every minute" and I guess I'm one of them. Beware!

A Classic, remastered. Finally!
I had a DVD of this film, which must have been one step up from a home taping job, because the sound quality was dreadful (to use a favorite Edward Everett Horton word). It was better than nothing, but still left a lot to be desired.

Then I discovered this remastered edition. I got it and watched it and was very pleased. Now, don't get me wrong; this film does not look or sound like something done yesterday, even with the remaster. The picture is still blurry to look at and there are some jumps, but you have to remember that this movie is nearly 80 years old, so it's bound to show its age somewhat.

What is new and better is the sound quality. The dialogue is completely audible, unlike on the previous DVD, where about half the dialogue was muffled to the point of inaudability, and it comes out of both channels on the speakers instead of just one, and you don't have to have the volume at the maximum to hear it. There is still the roar in the background that comes...
Below '0'....
...is the rating for Madacy releases. Whatever low is the price, it's still too high, regarding the ultimate lack of quality in their products, and I will wait for a real production of this movie on DVD by people knowing their trade and having some respect for their customers.
Pleaaaaaase, change the rating, and allow for "0 -or under- to 5' option, because if I don't want to put '1' (which is far too much in this case) my review won't be accounted for, and the likes of Madacy (I never met worse) should be prevented from releasing such crap.
