It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than himself. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.

Review :
The Amazing Spider-man 2: Complex, Mature, Emotional, and worth every minute of your time
I will never understand the hatred this movie has accumulated, not because there are FAR worse superhero films out there, but because The Amazing Spider-man 2 is an honest-to-God outstanding exploration of the themes of abandonment and hope that has fantastic character arcs, stunning action sequences, and a great narrative that's surprisingly complex in its structure.

In this sequel to the also-underappreciated "The Amazing Spider-man," Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone return as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, respectively, and, once again, their chemistry lights up every scene with joy, honesty, and love (it doesn't hurt that they're actually dating in real life). Peter is having difficulties adjusting to his life of happiness with Gwen as his girlfriend given that he had promised to honor her dying father, Captain George Stacy (played by Dennis Leary), and his last request to keep her out of his life for fear that she would suffer the violence Peter attracts as Spider-man...
Disappointing, but I know I'll still watch the next one...
I really liked the first Andrew Garfield Spider Man movie, better than the Tobey Maguire ones. This really seemed half-efforted, though. The villains were created too easily without much provocation and they just weren't very believable. I don't blame the actors for this. Foxx and Dehaan are great actors, but the story seemed slapped together to milk the franchise for more money. Overall, I was a little disappointed, but I would recommend seeing it if only to know important story points for the sequels.

Not amazing, slightly amusing.
Electro was the main bad guy in this, but was underdeveloped and glossed over as a character. Not because they introduce two other bad guys (and it really was just intros, not the overwhelming bad guy fest people complain about), but because too much time is spent on other equally underdeveloped plot points. Not sure if the studio got its fingers into this too much or what, but the writing here is awful and there was as much emotion in it as a piece of stale bread. Definitely not like the more unified vision shown in the first of this reboot series, but rather a bucket of mixed ideas slopped out onto the screen. A couple great, some decent, but most pretty bad. Even many of the effects looked so fake they take you right out of the fantasy. Still watchable, though. But mostly just to stay up to speed to know what's going on by the next film...which we hope finds its center.

Review :
The Battle of the Five Armies: One Tolkinian's Perspective
First off, I'm an absolute Middle Earth fanatic, both on the literary page and on the screen (I've seen and read it all, literally). This is my personal perspective on The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. And if you visit the comment section, I'll detail what's in the EXTENDED EDITION. So stick with me, dear reader, because this review could be long and fraught with emotion. Let us begin! IMO, BATTLE might just be the best of the Hobbit trilogy. The fans of the book will get their emotional moments, their classic Tolkien lines, and their respect treated seriously, while Peter Jackson reclaims his throne as the living King of Epic, with the Wagnerian grandeur, big feels, and visual splendor he does so well.

From the opening moments, wherein Smaug the Terrible rains down an unholy blitzkrieg of dragonfire on unsuspecting Laketown, BATTLE sets a snappy pace and only lets up long enough for you to gasp in awe or dab a tear from your eye. BATTLE is at once the most epic...
The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies 3D Review
Story:
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies concludes the epic journey of Bilbo Baggins of the Shire and his legion of Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield, under the guidance of Gandalf the Wizard, with a powerful, emotional finish. It begins right where part II left off, and wastes little time building towards the incredible war that is about to take place for the treasures of the Lonely Mountain.
Thorin must decide if he should live in his Grandfather's footsteps and horde all of the gold that is rightfully his, or listen to his solemn friends at the end of their dangerous journey to reclaim their home. The Bard and his townsfolk want only enough of the treasure to rebuild their fire scorned town, while the Elves want their cut of the diamonds, and yet the Orcs and Goblins, led by Azog the Defiler, wish to claim this Mountain fortress for its strategic position in the land, under their master Sauron, who is confronted by Galadriel, Gandalf, Elrond and Saruman. When the...
An Excellent Conclusion to the Hobbit Trilogy
Let me preface my review with two points: 1) Since childhood, I've always loved reading the Tolkien's "Hobbit" and always will. 2) I am also extremely appreciative of how Jackson expanded the story into a far fuller, richer telling of the embattled dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield.

The Battle of the Five Armies starts-in immediately with action and seldom slows down. If it feels like this is an unusually fast-paced film, it's because it is. However, at no time did I feel overwhelmed in trying to keep track of all the goings-on. And I can also assure you that despite such great battles as Helms Deep and Minas Tirith (Battle of the Pelennor Fields), the Battle For Erebor will show few similarities. Yes, Jackson achieved a uniqueness in all three gigantic pitched battles throughout the entire saga, which I found to be impressive in furtherance of each battle's high entertainment value. This film's central battle won't disappoint.

Storyline differences between Extended Collector's Edition and Theatrical Release
I'm primarily interested in the storyline differences between special sets and their theatrical counterparts, so here are the differences between the two (NOTE: SPOILERS FOLLOW).

The extended collector's edition runs 16 minutes 28 seconds longer than the theatrical cut, and listed below are the major differences.

1) The opening scene is different, and starts with Jake in a wheelchair on Earth, in a Blade Runner-esque Earth city. The scene moves to scenes of Jake in his apartment, then taking liquid shots in a bar. Jake's narration of "I told myself I can pass any test a man can pass" and "They can fix the spinal if you got the money. But not on vet benefits, not in this economy" are inserted during this new opening scene.

Jake beats up a bar patron who is mistreating a woman, and then Jake and wheelchair are unceremoniously thrown outside by bouncers into an alley. While in the alley, Jake meets the two RDA representatives who bring him news of his...
Don't let the one star reviews throw you off
There are many low score reviews purely based on the fact there was a release of this movie earlier this year and now the extended version comes out feels like a marketing game. When the first release happened it was known an extended version was coming, but some people just had to have it now. I just watched it on Netflix and waited for the extended version. I agree if you bought the first release version you have little real reason to buy the extended version, unless you love this movie and want the bonus features.

Some of the other low scores talk about the 3D version coming, but that is weak reason for most people because most do not own and will not own a 3D TV set. If you do your research on 3D TVs you will find they clunky and costly. Unless you are among the few who have a 3D TV, then there is no reason to wait to buy this release of Avatar if you enjoyed the movie.

For the few who have never seen the movie, the key factors to consider is if you are a...
Great Transfer to Blu-Ray
I got this as soon as I found it available on the net. It will not be available commercially for some time and that, of course, means the price is WAY to high for most viewers. I was willing to be taken for a ride but if you do not just have to have it now I would recommend waiting until it is available everywhere.
The video quality is fantastic. I have a Samsung 40" 3D setup and the movie was just beautiful to watch. Not quite the same as IMAX but very close (size of screen being the only difference that I could see). The 3D is, to my eyes, exactly as good as the IMAX on-screen version. I am a huge fan of the movie but believe me I would tell you if the video quality was not great.
I would not hesitate to do the purchase again (even considering the huge rip-off in price at this time) but advise others to consider if you really have to have it right now or can wait awhile.
Great movie, almost unbelievable video transfer quality, and a price that is just not right...

Marvel Just Keeps Getting Better
Avengers: Age of Ultron was an excellent movie. I would absolutely recommend taking the time to see it, especially if you happen to be a fan of the Marvel movies that have been released to date.
I've seen a lot of mixed reviews, the complaints mostly focusing on the fact that there was a lot of story and a great deal of activity shoved into a package that was just shy of two and a half hours. Maybe it's because I spent a lot of my life reading comic books, but I didn't feel at all like the narrative was rushed or unevenly paced at all. Personally I felt that there was a terrific balance between well choreographed action and well-written character development...though I might have liked to see a little bit more of the story dedicated to The Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver depending on how it was managed. The introduction of those three characters was fantastic though, and I thoroughly loved the change in dynamics that they forced upon the existing Avengers.

In some ways better than the original, and in some not.
To say that this sequel is bigger and badder than the original in virtually every way is not an understatement. "Age of Ultron" boasts more villains, more heroes, more action, and a far weightier tone than "The Avengers". While "The Avengers" was hampered by its origin story format and an incredibly slow first 20" "Ultron" is able to burst out of the gates with the heroes gathering and quickly storming the (literal) castle. We're also introduced to our first villains, Baron von Strucker and "the twins". The movie is dense with plot in its first act, especially in how Ultron is created, and it may make some people's heads spin. Also, with so many floating pieces/ characters to balance out and give each their due time (though it does give each of the characters their own moments and balances their screen time quite well), it ends up feeling like there are a bit too many moving pieces.
