Review :
Blown Away! But don't expect a documentary.
Blown away - figuratively speaking, at least! We just watched this, and it was excellent. I saw Chris Kyle's wife cry on the news after watching the trailer, and I have to say, that was probably the most moving and emotional thing I have seen associated with the movie. A few details:

As some have pointed out, it did not necessarily follow the book. They had to make a story out of it that everyone would sit and watch, and chose a couple specific scenarios to highlight and romanticize a bit. But this is great storytelling, make no mistake, and Clint Eastwood continues to show why he is one of the most respected directors in the world.

There is also more emotional struggle here than in the book, and in my opinion, that makes the main character more relatable. If the performance was quite as cold and had come to terms with his role as the real Chris Kyle, I am not sure we as an audience would have been able to relate. That would be tough to watch. He still...
Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood Bring American Sniper to Life.
American Sniper is nothing less than a masterpiece, possibly Clint Eastwood's best movie since The Outlaw Jose Wales. I say that knowing just how many truly great movies Eastwood has made over the years. As is any review, mine represents my subjective judgment...but American Sniper is simply that good.

For those who don't already know, American Sniper tells the story of Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history. We see brief glimpses of Kyle's Texas childhood, the product of a loving family and a strongly opinionated father. Wayne Kyle raised his sons to be the kind of men who would never be sheep, not the wolves who preyed on them, but rather sheep-dogs who would protect the weak from the wolves. Kyle grows up to be a real cowboy, winning buckles as a bull rider. Then, when terrorists bombed the United States embassies in the African cities of Dar es Salaam and Nairobi, killing hundreds, Kyle joined the US Navy.

At the age of 30, Kyle began...
A comment from a Vietnam infantry vet
I feel I have to jump in here. I'm a Vietnam Vet, a former infantry officer; I am tired of seeing "American Sniper" being bashed about every day on the TV news. I wish I could say to those people that "I don't think this movie should become a big political issue, rather it should be about Chris Kyle."

The reason, to my mind, as to why this has become some political issue, is because Chris, as a sniper, apparently killed without remorse. It was similar in Vietnam; I was in the infantry that made up 10% of the Army soldiers, and yet we suffered 70% of the Army's mortalities and horrific wounds on the battlefield. In the infantry we were trained to kill with our bare hands, with a knife, with a bayonet, with a bullet, and with a grenade. We also killed without remorse, because our superiors did not want us to be standing around feeling all sorrowful; no, we were expected to get on with the task at hand, get something to eat, get very little sleep, then get...

Review :
The Revolution is Well Underway
A revolution is afoot in these United States. But unlike, say, the American Revolution, this one is not of the people. No, it's anything but. This revolution has silenced the people, strangled our democracy and made a mockery of Constitution principles. The revolution? The privatization of the American electoral system.

How did this happen? How did the concept of one man, one vote get so skewed that partisans interests now design machines to register and count votes, in secrecy, with `proprietary' equipment that can't be independently reviewed and verified? How did so many of us become disenfranchised - without even knowing it? It's mind boggling.

And it's at the heart of UNCOUNTED. The film gives historical perspective on how our electoral system was slowly given over to those who do not have the good of the republic in their hearts, but rather see how our system can be manipulated toward their own aims; it lays bare the idea that our elections are fair...
fine documentary focusing primarily on the elections of 2000 and 2004
Uncounted: The New Math of American Elections focuses on both confirmed attempts to rig elections and suspected attempts to rig elections right up to the national level of president. Of course, this is a highly charged and controversial subject; and it's primarily but not exclusively presented by Democrats who assert that elections were rigged using electronic voting machines, voter intimidation and other "techniques" to get a particular candidate to win a political election and thwart our cherished democracy. It is important to note that this film was made in 2007 before the recent presidential election. Therefore, this film does not criticize or praise the way the most recent presidential election was handled.

It is absolutely fascinating to see interviews with people who were victimized when they tried to blow the whistle on Diebold, a company that made electronic voting machines but then added extra computer code to "flip" votes. The idea of "flipping" votes is simple...
democracy gone
No conspiracy theory's here, cold hard facts, some of which have been voiced over and over in the past, but also new facts which beg the question: Why is no one being held accountable? This documentary cuts into the heart of America, exposing the graft and corruption that finally broke through the revolving door and blew it off it's hinges in 2000. Today we are suffering the end result of that breach, the final phase of a planned op that allows corporate control of our government. The recent supreme court ruling allowing corporate to spend limitless amounts for the promotion of their candidate of choice is the final result (to date, fasten your seat belts) of the last vestiges of democracy being flushed down the toilet. The strongest point this documentary made to me was the fact that traitorous crimes have been committed over and over since 2000, and the perpetrators should at minimum be in prison. Our forefathers would have hanged them from the lamp posts, yet not a single...

Ashpet: An American Cinderella SALE

Review :
Southern charm added to a classic tale
"Ashpet" is a Cinderella story with more wit and charm than most retellings of the tale. This version is set pre-World War II and the prince is a soldier getting ready to go to war. The stepmother isn't as vicious as the eldest stepsister, Thelma, who wants a husband and doesn't like housework. Thelma is determined to use any method within her means including buying a charm from Dark Sally to wear to the Victory Dance.
My favorite element of the film is the subsitution of Dark Sally, a wise conjure-woman, into the traditional fairy godmother role. Dark Sally likes intelligent, hard-working girls, not lazy, silly girls like the stepsisters. She asks riddles and likes to tell stories with hidden meanings to anyone smart enough to listen. In this case the heroine Ashpet, rightfully known as Lily, is a great listener. Dark Sally doesn't use magic or charms to prepare Ashpet for the dance. She advises a bath and an inherited dress to enhance Lily's natural beauty...
Five Stars
My wife loves this movie... for some reason haha. Exactly what she wanted! Thanks!

These videos are excellent for the classroom! I thoroughly recommend any of them. Wish he would produce more.

Producer David O. Selznick and director Vittorio De Sica argued bitterly during the troubled production of this sad love story. Selznick wanted the film to be a slick, romantic feature, while De Sica, the master of Italian realism, wanted to portray a doomed relationship. Despite the friction behind the scenes, the film is considered by many to be a lost classic, boasting strong performances from Montgomery Clift and Jennifer Jones, as well as excellent camera work by De Sica’s frequent collaborator,  G.R. Aldo.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

This product is expected to play back in DVD Video "play only" devices, and may not play in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives.

Review :
brilliant, mesmerizing piece
Indiscretion takes place in one locale only, Rome's main train terminal. It chronicles the final moments of an ill-fated tryst between an Italian man (Montgomery Clift) and an American housewife (Jennifer Jones). But do not be fooled by the simplicity of this synopsis. Indiscretion is a multi-layered, surrealist script which, by focusing on the love affair between two people, takes a very courageous, analytical look at the clockwork behind the man's actions and the realities and demands of the society which formulates and steers those actions. In this story, it explains how this clockwork dictates and rules our lives, for better or worse. This analyzation is non-judgemental, and thankfully so.
Heavily targeted here are religion (monks and clerics are always nearby, following scenes between the couple), mortality and the fleeting nature of life (sinister clocks tick away, leaving less and less time available to the lovers), social and political authority (the threatening and...
Turmoil and passion in Italy's Terminal Station
"Terminal Station" was the result of a meeting of minds between two world famous filmmakers - Italy's Vittorio De Sica and U.S. mega-producer David O. Selznick. Their ideas of filmmaking were at opposite ends of the spectrum and the end result for the film was disastrous.
De Sica was one of Italy's pioneers of the "neo-realism" style of filmmaking which emphasized a gritty realism utilizing small budgets, hand-held cameras and actors with "characteristic" faces. David O. Selznick, on the other hand, was one of Hollywood's most successful producers who name was behind a roster of impressive films, notably "Gone With The Wind." His style was more reserved, romantic and "high-gloss." In 1942, Selznick had discovered a young girl from Tulsa, Oklahoma named Phylis Isley whom he groomed for stardom and changed her name to Jennifer Jones.
Jennifer Jones was a unique and talented actress who earned an Academy Award for her first major role in "The Song of Bernadette." She followed...
Illicit Love in the 50's... It was Hot!!!
I loved it. We always think of the 50's as being so pure and correct. Here we see people were just as prone to adultery as they are today. This movie shows how a torrid love affair can be filmed without taking off the clothes. It is the story of an American housewife who has been visiting her sister in Italy and ends up having an affair with a college professor. They are insanely in love. She is at the train station preparing to leave for home.
Professor shows up. It is awkward because her innocent nephew is there to see her off.
In this train station we see uninhibited lust, the insanity of being in love, all of this against the backdrop of the daily activities in the train station. I was breathless, glued to the set!!!
This type of story is some much more difficult to tell without the torrid bedroom scenes, but sooooo erotic.
Montgomery Cliff as the Professor could not pull of the Italian bit. He did not look it, nor sound it. He was thin, rackish, the last...
