Legend, from director Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator), is a visually stunning fantasy-adventure in which pure good and evil battle to the death amidst spectacular surroundings. Set in a timeless mythical forest inhabited by fairies, goblins, unicorns and mortals, this fantastic story stars Tom Cruise as a mystical forest dweller, chosen by fate, to undertake a heroic quest. He must save the beautiful Princess Lily (Mia Sara) and defeat the demonic Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry), or the world will be plunged into a never-ending ice age.

Review :
Two Movies for the Price of One! Darkness and Light!
LEGEND never really found an audience in theatres despite Ridley Scott and Universal's constant tinkering with the final cut. Seems many movies of this era were victims of audience test screenings, and the desire to give people a commercial product that went down easy -- see BRAZIL for a prime example of how studios think (the "love conquers all" version). So LEGEND was severely edited and rescored with a hasty (but often effective score by TANGERINE DREAM). It was short on plot and long on art direction, but sumptuous visuals and an all-out acting job by Tim Curry and make-up artist Rick Bottin made the movie an easy favorite of many fantasy fans. The movie looks stunning, and the story is a universal plunge into archetypes. Nothing wrong with that, it certainly worked for STAR WARS!
This DVD collection gives you two versions of LEGEND -- the original director's cut with over twenty minutes of added footage and the original Goldsmith score; and in addition, you...
There is no good without evil; no light without darkness
As long as unicorns roam the earth evil can never harm the pure of heart, and that is why the prince of Darkness has sent his most foulest goblins out into the very daylight he seeks to destroy forever to cut off the horns of the last two remaining. But when Jack (the forest boy, played by a very young Tom Cruise) takes Lily (a royal princess, played by the beautiful Mia Sara) to see them, she does the forbidden and touches these ancient creatures. Lily soon discovers it was she who unintentionally lured the unicorns into the goblin's trap; enabling them to shoot the poison stinger into one of the "beasts", as they call them, with a clear view. She vows to make things right again as the land becomes shrouded in a blanket of snow and tries to protect the last unicorn standing but is too frail to defend even herself. She then is captured, along with the unicorn, and taken back to the great tree where the wicked come to sacrifice. There the prince of Darkness yearns for a companion and...
finally!
jerry goldsmith is widely considered to be one of the best creators of movie music alive. he once gave an interview where he said that the score for 'Legend' was his favorite thing he'd ever written. when this movie was released, however, the people at the studio decided that "the kids" just wouldn't get it, so they replaced it with a pop-y bit from tangerine dream. furthermore, scenes were cut, and the action was speeded up so that the movie could be marketed to a younger crowd. problem solved: this is a 2 disc set so you can compare and contrast the two versions: one with jerry goldsmith's score restored and finally bringing the "international" cut to the u.s., the other being the u.s. theatrical cut. this movie is incredible, but certainly not for everyone. the early tom cruise is fun to watch, tim curry is his usual over-the-top self, and mia sara is quite attractive as the princess(?) lilly. at its heart, this is a good vs. evil quest film, with the...

Review :
Carpenter's masterpiece of paranoia review of reissued DVD
John Carpenter's "The Thing" wasn't so much a remake as a reinterpretation of John Campbell's classic short story. Closer in spirit to Campbell's conception of the Thing, Carpenter's film was both critically lauded because of the suspenseful storytelling and critically attacked for the excessive gore. While the gore is at times quite excessive it fits in with the audience expectations after films like "Dawn of the Dead" (the origianl 1979 movie)and other films of the era.

What's amazing is how audiences are drawn into the story despite the fact that there are no characters we really, really like. We admire many of these men and their resolve but we don't like them. They're the product of their harsh environment and isolation. Mac (Kurt Rusell)is the helicopter pilot for an Antarctic science station. Their dull routine is interrupted by a team of seemingly crazy Norwegians pursuing a dog. The Norwegians are killed and the Americans are left without any idea as to what might...
It was the right time.
Maybe someone said so in the DVD's documentary: 1982 was the right time for this movie. Nothing like it would be made today, or even a few years after its release. Even if a thematically similar film were made, it's almost a guarantee that it would use digital effects. This movie boasts the most incredible prosthetic effects ever seen, and I know in my gut that if it were made with computer graphics it wouldn't be nearly as good.
Okay, enough about that. I probably don't need to describe the movie itself, at least not from a plot perspective. Let me briefly cover technique: this movie is built for suspense. From the marvelous low-key Ennio Morricone score to the gold-standard cinematography of Dean Cundey, from the scene construction (I love the scene where the dog enters a crew room, and the scene fades out after we see the man's shadow turning - no sting, no shock, just a fade out) to the realistic paranoia and fear building in the eyes of the men. I admit that...
"Gorror"/suspense classic comes to Blu-ray September 30th, 2008 - Updates on features, quality
Though The Thing shocked with its new level of gore when it came out in 1982, popular taste has pretty well caught up to the gore factor. Now fans will be able to see it all in Blu-ray high-def.

The Thing takes its title from the influential 1951 sci-fi classic The Thing from Another World, a film it otherwise resembles only in similarity of location and a few plot points. (If you're interested in a less scary, more campy, funnier black-and-white version, with women in it, check out the older one.) The location is an isolated antarctic research station, cut off from radio contact with the outside world, where Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, Keith David and several other men unknowingly take in an alien creature that can adopt the form of members of the crew as it destroys them. They quickly find themselves in a desperate and paranoia-inducing situation, each not knowing who among the others might be...

Universally recognized as the Master of Suspense, the legendary Alfred Hitchcock directed some of cinema’s most thrilling and unforgettable classics. Alfred Hitchcock: The Essentials Collection features five iconic films from the acclaimed director’s illustrious career including Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho and The Birds each digitally restored from high resolution film elements. Starring Hollywood favorites such as James Stewart, Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Tippi Hedren, Eva Marie Saint, Kim Novak and Rod Taylor, this essential collection captures the most memorable moments in the career of a true cinematic master.

Review :
In Search of VERTIGO.
Before Blu-ray, the very best home video version of Vertigo was the anamorphic DVD that Universal sold only as one of the 14 Hitchcock titles in the Masterpiece Collection. (I believe this collection also had the only anamorphic DVD version of Psycho.) It appears that Universal has released its Blu-ray version of Vertigo only as part of two collections: The Masterpiece and The Essentials collections.

I am glad that Universal has made Vertigo available in its far less expensive Essentials Blu-ray collection. In my opinion, Vertigo is not the greatest film ever made, but it is of special interest to me because of its San Francisco locations and overall Bay Area setting. Vertigo, along with Shadow of a Doubt and The Birds may also be of interest to Northern California natives. Anyway, here are my quality ratings of the 5 films contained in the Essentials Collection in order of their appeal:

1. North By Northwest: I have seen nearly every Hitchcock film and this one...
Hitch at the apex of his career
Though he was an undisputed genius of the cinema, not everyone needs the complete Hitchcock features. If you're a keen fan, they're available on DVD in large, rather expensive box sets: the 15-disc Masterpiece, nine-disc Signature, and eight-disc Premiere Collections (these don't include his "non-Hitchcockian" silent films and talkies from the 1920s and early 30s). But many Hitchcock lovers recall the five films on this reasonably-priced five-disc set most fondly, and they are without question among his finest achievements, all of them produced in Hollywood between 1954 and 1963.

Presented with a few interesting extras and options, the DVDs will do nicely for many folks -- though not for the angry Blu-ray aficionados who've given the box single-star ratings. This may come as a shock to them, but some people who are just discovering Hitch have ordinary DVD players and 32-inch TVs and are not planning to spend thousands to upgrade their collections or their equipment. If you...
Don't think twice about buying this set if you want to see "Vertigo" at its best!
I have just received this item. I already had owned all of these movies, all but one in the "Masterpiece" DVD collection, also offered by Universal. My reason to purchase the present set was to own "Vertigo" in the High Definition Blu Ray format. It is one of my favorite movies, and recently named the best of all time by the British Film Institute. Filmed in VistaVision, the large frame format would seem to provide an excellent substrate for high resolution images. Within a few minutes, it was obvious how wonderful this new Blu Ray transfer is, compared to the already excellent DVD version. The mosquito noise, seen on the DVD, has vanished, revealing absolutely crystal-clear images- one can read the license plates on most of the cars, and even the small newsprint Scotty is perusing, while eavesdropping on Kim Novak, as she leaves her apartment. As importantly, color fidelity, and particularly color saturation, is awesome. Certainly, we have to thank Mr...

This unique thing provides surpasses own prospect, this place has developed into a amazing upgrade on me personally, The concept came properly and also quickly The Place Beyond the Pines (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet)

Academy Award nominees Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper star in this epic, riveting crime drama about the unbreakable bond between fathers and sons. Luke (Gosling) gives up his job as a motorcycle stunt performer in order to provide for his new family.  Avery (Cooper), an ambitious rookie cop, struggles to make his way in a corrupt police department.  Their two worlds collide when Luke takes part in a string of bank robberies and the consequences of their shocking confrontation will reverberate into the next generation.   From the acclaimed director of Blue Valentine and co-starring Eva Mendes and Ray Liotta, this engaging and powerful thrill ride has critics raving, “5 stars!  The Place Beyond the Pines is huge in its ambition, huge in its achievement!” (Mick LaSalle, The San Francisco Chronicle)"The place beyond the pines" is an idiomatic translation of the Native American word Schenectady, which is the tucked-away upstate New York setting where the triptych dramas of The Place Beyond the Pines unfold with deft, emotional grace. This second feature from director Derek Cianfrance is an ambitious reach into tragedy, honor, and responsibility experienced between fathers and sons. Even though the result falls a little short of his grasp, there's no denying the beauty and passion in the story he tells with such measured artistry and eloquent attention to process and form. Unlike his impressive debut, Blue Valentine, which hewed to a structure that lurched forward and back in observing the beginning and ending of a marriage, Pines follows a linear chronology in its three acts, but it is similarly jarring in the way the narrative plays out so unexpectedly. Act one follows Luke (Ryan Gosling), a motorcycle daredevil on the carnival circuit who discovers that the fling he had last year with Romina (Eva Mendes) left him with a son. The shell of tattoos and leather jacket Luke hides under can't disguise the effect this new reality has on him. He decides to stick around and try to weasel into the role of being a father, turning to bank robbery as a means of providing the support he believes he must. The story's second act abruptly leaves Luke behind, shifting the focus to Avery (Bradley Cooper), a rookie local cop with a law degree who truly wants to do good, even though police corruption is endemic even on the nice streets he patrols in his placid place beyond the pines. Avery also has a new son, but as much as Luke yearned to shower love on his boy, circumstances have led Avery to shut down and deny any feeling toward his child or his wife (Rose Byrne). Part three takes place 15 years later, when fate brings the two boys together and the legacy left to them by their fathers comes home to roost in an equally unpredictable fashion. AJ and Jason (Emory Cohen and Dane DeHaan) are thrown together in the unpleasantly realistic dance of teenage angst as Avery and Luke's sons. They are at first unaware of their fathers' association until the inevitable revelation and partial role reversal that winds the movie down. All the performances are terrific and Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper are at the top of their game, though their interaction is limited to one brief sequence. Gosling feels a little typecast as the moody, stone-faced, quick-tempered guy we've seen him play before, but his entire body is engaged in the way he snaps from calm to rage at the emotions brewing inside. Cooper is restrained and playing somewhat against type as a man who should be the hero, even though he's got more villain in him than the movie outright admits. Cianfrance displays an enormous advance as an auteur. The Place Beyond the Pines may not be the fully realized work he intended, but it is an absorbing and often deeply moving exercise in family dynamics and destinies that are never certain. --Ted Fry

Review :
Another great film portraying the weight and cruciality of fatherhood
This movie had me from beginning to end. I loved the depth of all the underlying themes that intersected throughout the movie. The significance of a man's role in the family and in a marriage is heavily explored from start to finish. All the main characters appeared very raw and believable. The casting was expert and the complexities of each character were portrayed very subtly without the need for much dialogue, which is always the genius of a well-written movie. The sins of our fathers was a reoccuring theme throughout, and you can feel the inadequacies, hopes, and fears of each character as time unfolds. What gets me the most is witnessing the sweetness and kindness behind each character despite their depravity or past mistakes. This is a very moving story of humanity. You can't help but empathize with each character.

A rare occasion where EVERYONE should listen to the VERY positive reviews
Stunning. Amazing. Beautiful. Powerful. Genuinely Effective. That my friends is what can be said about The Place Beyond the Pines. I had been hearing very good things about this movie for a long time and today I finally got to watch it. My oh my what a movie. I have yet to see Man of Steel, American Hustle, or any other movie besides 42 that has really impressed me. But this is already one of the best films of 2013. Ryan Gosling took a big leap from his lackluster performance in Gangster Squad and gave a strong standout performance as Luke Glanton. Supporting cast includes Eva Mendes as Romina, Bradley Cooper(he is getting better with each role as an actor) as Avery Cross, Ray Liotta as Delucca who also did a great job (there has to be a guy everyone loves to hate) and Dane Dehaan (who is also a great actor for his age) as Jason Glanton. The whole cast did a beyond superb job. The Place Beyond the Pines makes you forget that the people in it are just characters; you generally come to...
The first exceptional film of 2013
Luke Glanton (Ryan Gosling) has a good thing going with a traveling carnival. He's got a pocketful of fame thanks to his motorcycle stuntman status and makes just enough money to get by. He meets up with Romina (Eva Mendes), an old fling, in Schenectady, New York and finds out that their one night together resulted in a little one year old boy named Jason. Luke quits the carnival and intends to provide for his son, but Romina has moved on and is currently in a relationship with Kofi (Mahershala Ali). Luke crosses paths with a mechanic named Robin (Ben Mendelsohn) who talks Luke into robbing a few banks to get some quick cash to support his newfound fatherhood. But Luke gets addicted to the thrill of the hunt and the money and gets overzealous, which attracts the New York police department and rookie cop Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper) in particular.

Director Derek Cianfrance last worked with Ryan Gosling in "Blue Valentine" from 2010, which got a noticeable amount of attention...

Review :
A psychological thriller - with laughs
Possible spoilers

Sometimes some people are too good to be true.

Dan Stevens plays US Special Forces soldier David, returning from the Middle East to turn his charm on the family of a deceased veteran with whom he served. Despite initial suspicion, the family take David in, allowing him to fill the gaping hole in their lives. David has that special ability to soothe with extreme politeness and preternatural ability to insinuate himself where he is most needed. But when local townsfolk start turning up dead, Maika Monroe - Anna begins to suspect that David isn't quite as attractive as he seems. Playing to a more mainstream audience than his previous outings, director Adam Wingard increasingly ludicrous chiller/shocker has plenty of tongue and cheek with this genre convention, unafraid to laugh at itself as the body count rises and as David's knowing nods and winks become manic twitches. As we move toward a surreal third act, the tension dissolves into goofy...
One of my favorites of the year
It's a real shame that this movie didn't get the kind of audience it deserved. And from reading these reviews it seems like a lot of people just didn't "get" this movie at all. It's a super fun thriller that's filled with plenty of action and some horror movie elements as well. But it also has a great sense of humor... it's not supposed to be taken super seriously. Keyword here is FUN. It's a throwback to a fun 80's action flick mixed with a John Carpenter horror movie.

Last two things about the movie I want to mention... the soundtrack is really terrific. Sounds great on it's own, but in the context of the movie it's super effective. The other thing is the acting... it was good on all accounts, but I was particularly impressed by Dan Stevens in the main role. His character David is handsome, charming, and polite, but has a real current of malice running belong the surface.

I have seen some people comparing this movie to Drive... I can see that...
Creepy, Funny, Action-packed, and Thought-provoking
Underrated at best, this film is sure to please if you're a fan of suspense. Dan Stevens is like a mix between Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling, but hides his English accent so well you'd never guess he had one. He plays David, a soldier returning from duty who visits the family of his fallen comrade. But suspicious things start happening since he came to stay. This movie is fantastic. It's like a mix between Drive, 80s horror movies, and 80s action movies. The premise is entertaining, the script smartly written, and the action plentiful. The suspense is tangible and the comedy surprising. But the real standout in this movie is the soundtrack. This soundtrack is amazing. Each song is perfect for each scene. And it helps to make the suspense all the more real. Don't miss a chance to see The Guest.

They soon realize that reaching their final pub, The World’s End, may be the least of their troubles.  They’re having the time of their lives, ready to take on the world…but tonight they may have to save it.  Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reteam with director Edgar Wright in this wildly entertaining thrill ride that critics call “sheer comic perfection” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone).  Hot Fuzz Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is a big-city cop who can't be stopped - but he's making everyone else on the force look bad. When he is reassigned to a small, quiet town, he struggles with this new, seemingly idyllic world and his bumbling partner (Nick Frost). Their dull existence is interrupted by several grisly and suspicious accidents, and the crime-fighting duo turn up the heat and hand out high-octane, car-chasing, gun-fighting big-city justice in this hilarious hit critics are calling "Outrageous! Uproariously Funny!" (Thelma Adams, US Weekly). Shaun of the Dead There comes a day in every man's life when he has to get off the couch… and kill some zombies. When flesh-eating zombies are on the hunt for a bite to eat, it's up to slacker Shaun (Simon Pegg) and his best pal Ed (Nick Frost), to save their friends and family from becoming the next entreé. Novelist Stephen King gushes Shaun of the Dead is “a 10 on the fun meter and destined to be a cult classic" and Newsweek calls it "a bloody hoot!"

Bonus materials
If you're buying this collection, it is obvious you're a fan of the Pegg/Frost/Wright movies. This review clarifies the bonus materials found in the Blu-Ray collection of the three movies in the "Cornetto Trilogy."

The product description is a little vague on the bonus materials that go with this release. Sometimes disk collections skimp on the bonus materials that are found in the normal release. Fortunately, this is not the case with this collection. The disks are loaded with commentaries, out takes, deleted scenes, featurettes, etc., etc., etc.

The back of the box indicates: "Over six hours of apocalyptic bonus features! Including 9 feature commentaries, 11 featurettes, out-takes, deleted scenes and much, much more."

By the way, if you finish these and want more of the same vein, you really must check out "Spaced." It was a 14-epidode TV series, and an absolute must for geeks that love Pegg/Frost/Wright creations.

A SLICE OF FRIED GOLD
Chances are you don’t really need to read reviews on this. If you’re looking at this item, you probably want to buy it. But maybe you’re wondering:

Is it three boxes with a wrap to hold them, or one box with three discs?

I can answer that: It’s one box. It has one of those inserts that holds a disc on both sides, plus one on the back part of the inside of the case. One box, three discs, and a cardboard wrapper because who like trees, anyways?

The ultimate three flavors Cornetto Trilogy!!
Three slices of fried gold are what I call the movies in this collection. I can't really decide which I like the best because each definitely has its own special "flavor". Despite sharing hilarious comedy gags and themes of maturity & friendship.

Shaun of the Dead - is a love letter to George Romero Zombie films & the movie that serves to introduce the talented team of: Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg & Nick Frost to mainstream audiences.

Hot Fuzz - is a hilarious nod to buddy cop films & has a lot of great over the top action.

The World's End - wraps up "The Trilogy" and is another great nod to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Also serving to prove that you really can't go home again.

This Blu-ray collection is also packed with extras for each film giving the fan plenty of behind the scenes Cornetto comedy.

Review :
(BLU RAY UPDATE) 4 1/2 stars for a visually arresting sci-fi beauty
There may be spoilers.

Some critics have panned this new film from director and co-writer Joseph Kosinski, in this his second film ("TRON: Legacy"), as being highly derivative. But let's face it, how many films are so fresh and new that they delve into uncharted territory? In any case, don't care. Whether it's a drama, a comedy, a horror movie or even a romantic comedy, it's how well it is delivered that counts. And this film delivers.

Like "TRON" the film is visually arresting. Seen on a big screen, the sets are huge but sparse, drawing the audience in. Set in a war-ravaged Earth of 2077 devoid of humans, all of whom have resettled on a moon of Saturn, only Jack (terrific Tom Cruise) and Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) remain. They are partners (both romantic and professionally) whose mission is to watch over the drones that patrol the area for a smattering of "Scavs" who were the defeated invaders. While Earth won the war, they lost the planet which...
Oblivion in IMAX (Blu-ray Update)
When I first saw a trailer for Oblivion, I felt like it was custom made for me. Then, last night, while watching it in IMAX,they started playing a Led Zeppelin song in the movie, I knew it was made for me. Oblivion was a mix of the greatest Sci-Fi already made and yet it was still unique in its own way. Other reviewers have said that the writing is better in the first half and that the movie becomes predictable or not as strong in the second half. I completely disagree. I felt like the script, while borrowing bits from other Sci-Fi, remained engaging and well-done through out the whole movie. If you see this movie in IMAX, in addition to being blown away by the incredible surround sound, you will actually see more of the picture than in a traditional theater. They opened it up for most of the movie. There were a few parts (only one I noticed was around the beginning) where it was the more narrow widescreen picture. For the rest of the time it filled up the huge IMAX screen. The...
Entertaining Sci-fi Flick!
Oblivion wasn't a dynamic bang `em up, annihilate the universe sci-fi. It was steady, uncomplicated and extremely enjoyable. Cruise's performance is good (not a big fan of his, but he does have that charisma that is caught on film and makes it work extremely well). The premise was really good; the plot was a twist I did not even anticipate, but it was a really nice surprise for a sci-fi flick. The visuals and special effects are outstanding! Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable and entertaining Saturday night movie. For you sci-fi fans who need a fix, give this a look-see! Highly Recommend!

The World's End Twenty years after their first epic pub crawl attempt, the “five musketeers” reunite to complete the ultimate challenge – one night, five friends, twelve bars – a boozy quest on which only the strongest will survive.

Review :
5 stars and the dvd is a bargain
Well, I bought the DVD dts and I think you'll like the extras such as the outtakes, deleted scenes, and especially an excellent documentary. You'll get the behind the scenes from Spielberg, the actors, photographers, and the producers. In today's film world this movie could be made rather easily, but back then you'll see the tremendous undertaking that went into this production. The movie itself, of course, is just amazing. At one point Spielberg says that the shark is the star, but the scenes on the boat will show you 3 stars at the top of their game. The sound quality is outstanding and exact, but I do have one complaint.... on the 5.1 DTS their isn't much activity from the back 2 speakers. The sound coming from the front 3 is great, but they could have done more. This movie is just as suspenseful as when I saw it in the mid-seventies. I hadn't really watched it in awhile and I had forgotten the outstanding acting performances by Scheider, Dreyfuss, and Shaw...
Finally On DVD
Jaws was Stephen Spielberg's first hit and after his initial reluctance to release his movies on DVD, it finally makes its DVD debut. We all know the story, a great white shark terrorizes the waters off of Amity Island. The movie is based on Peter Benchey's best-selling novel. This is one of the rare instances where a movie is actually better than the book it was based on. In Mr. Benchey's novel, there is are some extraneous sections such as an affair between Ellen Brody and Hooper that really don't add to the story. The movie streamlines the book and the changes made bringing it to the screen actually improve on the book. The performances of three stars are superb. Roy Scheider plays Chief Brody as an everyman. We can all relate with him as he is just trying do his job and the right thing but is caught in the middle. He wants to close the beaches to catch the shark, but the people he is protecting want them opened as the water is the source of their livelihoods...
JAWS Dazzles on Blu-Ray
The original summer blockbuster, Steven Spielberg's JAWS quickly became my favorite film growing up, having devoured it on VHS and on ABC's Sunday Night Movie presentation (the one with the added footage) so many times I could recite dialogue before I was out of grade school. Over the years I've been able to see it on the big screen (thanks to a visit with Lukas on Martha's Vineyard back in `96 or so), but despite that - and having reviewed numerous laserdisc and DVD releases over the years - only now with Universal's Blu-Ray edition do I feel like I've really, completely seen "Jaws." This is a spectacular HD presentation on every level and is sure to thrill fans of this classic 1975 screen adaptation of Peter Benchley's bestseller.

There's not much I can say about the movie that hasn't been written or documented - from behind-the-scenes books to countless documentaries - since the film's 1975 release date. Spielberg's miraculous direction took advantage of every difficult...

"Welcome to Jurassic Park!"
Anyone who has seen JURASSIC PARK can tell you of the thundering AWE they felt the first time they saw it. There are few cinematic experiences that can rival the spectacle of a herd of Gallimimus stampeding on an open plain, or a giant Tyrannosaur roaring in the rain. Jurassic Park, is quite simply, one of the greatest blockbusters ever made. The plot looks simple: a group of experts and friends are invited to explore a theme park that has yet to open - but the premise is high-concept in that way only Michael Crichton is high-concept: the park is filled with living dinosaurs cloned from ancient DNA. And quickly, the ordinary tour becomes a terrifying thrill-ride for survival, complete with claws, teeth, fangs, venom, and more.

In the human corner, we have Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, a crusty but passionate paleontologist, and his partner Dr. Ellie Sattler, played with childlike wonder by...
One of the best 3D conversions ever made.
It's more than a little uncommon for a film to visually impress two times in a row. What made for spectacular viewing the first time becomes old news by the second. And with the rate at which the technologies used at the movies advances, these former special-effects heavyweights begin to look dated very quickly.

That makes it all the more impressive that Jurassic Park 3D - a classic celebrating its 20th birthday this year - is still eye-poppingly amazing to look at. The special effects alone have aged like a fine wine, due in no small part to the film's reliance on animatronics over computer animation. Whereas CGI tends to leave everything looking just slightly "off", the dinosaurs of this park feel as real as they come. There's none of that oddly shiny, too-perfect look of modern movies.

Someone at Universal deserves a pat on the back for the job of converting this movie to 3D. The original was obviously never filmed with 3D in mind, but the new sense of...

Review :
SUPERB, VISCERAL AND PROFOUNDLY RELEVANT
Brutal and intense, writer-director Peter Berg's superb combat film, based on the vivid New York Times bestselling tale of heroism, takes a look at the 19 American deaths - and lone survivor - of an ill-fated incident in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

Bloody and poetic, the incredible true story follows four Navy SEALS on a secret mission to kill a Taliban leader when they stumble across a trio of goat herders. The SEALS choose the difficult decision to release and not kill them. That act of mercy is rewarded by a relentless firestorm from at least forty Taliban fighters who quickly surround the four.

Marcus Luttrell (Mark Wahlberg), Danny Dietz (Emile Hirsch) and Michael Murphy (Taylor Kitsch) are the brave SEALS. Ben Foster and Eric Bana also star. And they do justice to the real men they play - and honor. Berg's smooth direction captures every horrific moment whether it's a bullet's impact or a treacherous fall. We always have a sense of where we...
Gripping, Heart Wrenching, an Emotional Rollercoaster
I was one of the lucky ones that got to see an early preview of this movie. Thank you Seal of Honor FB page for the link for the tickets.

Let me start off by saying I was very familiar with this story before I saw the movie having read Lone Survivor book as well as the book by Sofrep on the rescue of Marcus Luttrell. I have read all of the books on Murph. I am so glad this movie was made, so more people can know the sacrifice made by our military and their families.

Let me give you a little background on the premiere I was at - it was packed, people were trying to sneak sit in aisles because every seat in the theater was taken. I was lucky enough to have a group of 7 jack wagons behind me that were very vocal - always a bonus right? They had a comment about most of the people in the theater and especially the girls. Trust me by the time the movie started I knew which cup size they preferred as well as brunettes vs blonde. I was really worried that I was...
The very best military/war movie Hollywood has ever put out.
I really can't add anything to the other reviews already on here, but will say that I spent nearly 60 months in Iraq and Afghanistan, both in the Army and as a civilian and am amazed that Hollywood finally nailed it. The realism of the terrain to the early Bagram scene to the SF camp to the villages and villagers was ridiculously authentic; sure Lattrell had alot to do with that. During my time as a civilian over, I worked for and lived with SEALS, Army SF, and MARSOC and those guys are a different breed, Berg and co portrayed this special group of men with precision. The casting was phenomenal, I cannot wait to pick this up when it's released.

Seventh Son 3D Review:
Seventh Son offers a very expansive world filled with large beasts, special effects and swords and sorcery in a smorgasbord of entertaining Fantasy cinema, with the talents of Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore and more. Fans of Medieval Fantasy Movies will find much to enjoy in Seventh Son, which involves the recruitment of Tom Ward, the reported Seventh Son, with special powers soon to be harnessed and revealed through the guidance of the feisty and ornery old Jeff Bridges, as John Gregory, a Hunter of sorts, determined to spell the end of the evil Witch Malkin (Julianne).
The movie includes a lot of escapades as Ward and Gregory quest through forests filled with dead souls, a castle with a red eyed demon knight, a prison room with a gargantuan man Bear Beast, a bursting driller Giant, waterfalls, gorgeous scenery that reminds one of Middle Earth (New Zealand), Dragons, Trolls, Witches, an expert swordsman with four arms, Creatures of all kinds, a beautiful princess, towns, cliffs,...
An entertaining fantasy, with meaningful real life messages and a good vibe at the end!
I really don’t know why this movie is not well seen. On a second thought maybe I know why, but still I keep my 4 stars alive. The critiques are that it’s not too original, full of clichés or boring.

I think is a very decent movie with great subtle messages. In my opinion it’s about showing the importance of balance between good or bad, that no one is 100% bad or 100% good and that is a story to every good or bad behavior. A similar message comes about the temptation – which many times take over - to get converted by evil and lose your way.

Also, the movie emphasizes about the importance of following your destiny, digging deeper in things, waiting for the right moments and willing to make sacrifices in life. I think even if it’s a fantasy has good real life messages, therefore are never enough to be heard and applied.

Someone To Root For!
Okaaaayyyy...Here we're fighting evil spirits. If you are the seventh son of a seventh son, that makes you the local spook. It is up to you to run off evil spirits, witches and other pesky threats. Problem is, you can't stop time and you are getting old and weary. So far, you haven't been able to find an apprentice who can survive long enough to do the job. Who will take over?

This PG-13 movie, directed by Sergei Bodrov, combines the usual grotesque monsters, dragons and witches with a sweet romance between two attractive (and NICE!) young people. What a welcome change of pace. Of course the bar keeps going up as more and more disgusting monsters leap off the 3D screen, but at least we have someone to root for.

We see:
* Ben Barnes ("Prince Caspian") is Tom Ward, sold by his parents to the spook... who is NOT impressed! Our hero learns a LOT, but much of it he would rather not know. He wishes he were a sixth son!
* Jeff Bridges ("True...

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To. The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

Review :
Dumb and Disappointing
Is this as bad as the critics say? Yes and no. If you like Adam Sandler movies, you will like this. If you were a huge fan of the original movie (like me) then you might enjoy seeing the characters again on screen. There are a couple of parts that made me smile or chuckle. Big laughs, not so much. The biggest problem for me is that this is a sequel to my favorite comedy of all-time and it is not even close in quality. The people who made this film really miss the point of what made the original great.

The original film established the characters as grown men with the mental capacity of 7 year old boys. For much of the original the characters have a sort of innocence about them which made them endearing. In this sequel that innocence is gone completely. In fact they come across as mean and dangerous. An example of this can be seen in the plot. In the original Harry and Lloyd go on a road trip to return a “lost” briefcase to a woman. Although they had their own...
Dumb and Dumber To is a film to miss
"Dumb and Dumber" was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. When I selected "Dumb and Dumber To", I expected the writing and acting of this sequel with the original actors to be as funny or even more funny. It wasn't. I kept hoping it would get better as the story droned on. Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels were wasted talent. The story line, acting and directing were all below tolerable. Crude "potty humor" in the original was paced and placed effectively. In this mess it was just thrown like a monkey tossing poo at someone in a zoo. Jim and Jeff are funny, individually or together.... but not so in this film. My advice, is that you miss it.

Great comedy on its own...
The one common theme I saw in every negative review of this movie is "It's not even close to the original, so its garbage!"

Each and every one of those who said such a thing are not terribly bright. How many comedies have you seen in your lifetime that have been as good, or better, than Dumb and Dumber? Seriously.....take a moment to ponder that, and get back to me when you figure out the very small number I'm asking you to come up with.

People who hate this movie were DUMB enough to go into the theater with expectations of the sequel being on par with the original. Pay no attention to their worthless reviews. This movie, on its own, was funny as hell, and definitely worth seeing. When you put it up against the original, of course it's going to look less flattering. The original is an all time classic comedy that can never be replicated, and in no way did they even TRY to replicate it in the sequel. They just gave us a little more of a glimpse 20 years after we...

Review :
The digital copy is a nice touch as well
This box set is legit. Not only boasting numerous hours of extra features, it includes the original film in both 2D and 3D bluray, Lost World in bluray and Jurassic III in bluray. The case includes slots for the upcoming bluray release of Jurassic World for both 2D and 3D. The digital copy is a nice touch as well. It allows you to sync the ultraviolet copy to a number of video streaming services such as VUDU and FLIXTER. It also allows you to add to your itunes library. Would highly recommend!

Lost World needs work.
Pretty decent. Nice package. The extra slots for Jurassic World is pretty cool. The transfer for Jurassic Park 2 was pretty bad though.
It just didn't look good compared to the other two.

Great Set!!!
