The prize: ending the Apocalypse. The price: Sam’s life. Season 5’s horrific finale left Dean alone, as Sam descended into Hell. Now a different man, Dean vows to stop hunting and devote himself to building a family with Lisa and her son Ben. Then, mysteriously, Sam reappears, drawing Dean back into the old life. But Sam’s a different man too. He’s returned without his soul. How the Winchesters confront this greatest challenge yet to their powerful bond is the troubled heart – and soul – of the profound and thrilling 5-Disc, 22-Episode Season 6. As the brothers struggle to reunite, they must also battle deadly supernatural forces. Demons. Angels. Vampires. Shapeshifters. And a terrifying new foe called the Mother of All. Season six of the fantasy-horror-drama series Supernatural continues its almost perverse streak of setting the bar at the end of each season so impossibly high that its successor could never surpass the roadblocks in its path, only to leap over them with the same amount of aplomb, wit, and complexity the program has shown throughout its network run. When audiences last saw the Winchester brothers at the end of season five, Dean (Jensen Ackles) had abandoned hunting demons in favor of family life, while Sam (Jared Padalecki) had apparently lost his battle with Lucifer in the season finale. But as season six reveals, Sam is alive and well, though missing a soul, which makes his subsequent hunts with a reluctant Dean merciless and focused on a plan not entirely understood by either man. As the brothers grapple with shape-shifting infants ("Two and a Half Men"), vampires (the unfortunately titled "Live Free or TwiHard"), leprechauns (Robert Picardo in "Clap Your Hands If You Believe…"), horror icon H.P. Lovecraft ("Let It Bleed"), and a variety of homegrown monstrosities, they discover that Sam's soul is in the possession of the demon Crowley (Mark Sheppard), who is using it to manipulate Sam into locating the souls of Purgatory, which could turn the tide of a civil war raging in Heaven towards Crowley and renegade angel Castiel (Misha Collins). The Winchesters must then stop the infernal duo's scheme before an even greater apocalypse can occur. With such high stakes and grim fates hanging in the balance, it's a wonder that Supernatural can spare a moment for its trademark quirky humor, but such episodes as "The French Mistake," where the brothers arrive in an alternate reality where they assume the identity of Ackles and Padalecki, or the aforementioned "Two and a Half Men," display the producers' knack for combining the lighthearted with the show's trademark depth and darkness. Most impressively, the season sets up Supernatural for a seventh go-round that promises--yet again--to top its predecessors.

Extras are again substantive and plentiful, with "Jensen Ackles: A Director's Journey" focusing on the actor's debut as helmer on "Weekend at Bobby's," perhaps the most interesting of the lot, with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and crew. Somewhat weightier in tone and content is "Soul Chasers: Supernatural and the Quest for the Soul," which explores the concept of the soul from religious and philosophical perspectives. Writers and executive producers Sara Gamble, Ben Edlund, and Bob Singer are featured on commentary tracks for "Clap Your Hands" and "The French Mistake," while the latter is covered in collections of alternate takes and outtakes and a stand-alone blooper reel. Two episodes of Warner Bros. Japan's Supernatural: The Anime series, both featuring Padalecki and Ackles as the voices of Sam and Dean, bring the set to a satisfying conclusion. --Paul Gaita

Underworld: Legacy Collection on Blu-ray
Underworld fans get a 4-disc Blu-ray Legacy Collection with four films: Underworld, Evolution, Rise of the Lycans and Awakening. This release adds Awakening to the Blu-ray collection but it remains the weakest of the films (the 3D version is not included but sold separately). UltraViolet Digital Copy codes are provided for the films. Overall, the picture quality is good but varies by film (the first three films could use a good remastering). However, the audio is great. There is over 5.5 hours of bonus content which is somewhat light for 4 films. Additional extras for Evolution and Rise of the Lycans would make this release a little more deluxe since the original Underworld gets the lion's share of the bonus content. Underworld fans who own the Trilogy Blu-ray collection may consider purchasing Awakening 3D on Blu-ray separately instead of upgrading to this set since it contains the same extras. The Underworld Legacy Collection is somewhat disappointing since it simply bundles the...
Underworld Box Set
This includes all 4 films. First one is indeed the extended version for those wondering. Each film comes in it's own case.

Great set!! Just wish they would have "remastered" the older two of the set.
Cool to get this four disc set with all four of the Underworld movies. Very disappointed Sony just repackaged the old blu rays and added the fourth one to make a set. They know that this franchise sells, so why not at least remaster the first two with the newer technologies of today. The first one was made awhile ago when blu ray technology was new. If any of the movies deserve a "remastering" it would be the first Underworld. A new hi def video transfer along with new soundtrack utilizing DTS-HD. And why use the same covers with each film housed in a blue plastic case (like typical blu ray) and not red ones or even a fold out type so the set would be thinner. These studios need to start making these "collections" collectible for the fans. But, they know how to save money AND make money. The last I checked this set is selling mighty well. Especially when you can get the whole set a few dollars more than Awakening alone.
All in all, this is a good set to show off to your friends...

Batman flies high in excellent BEGINS
Since his first dramatic appearance in Detective Comics in 1939, Batman has grown to become a pop-culture icon. From movie serials in the 40's, to a classic campy TV show in the 60's, to a solid animated series in the 90's, fans have thrilled to the super heroics of this unique character. However, as a film franchise, he has brought results that were somewhat less than impressive creatively. While the Tim Burton directed films, BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS were stylish and dark, they also suffered from plot holes you could drive a Batmobile through. Then Joel Schumacher introduced a Day-Glo sensibility to the Dark Knight in BATMAN FOREVER, before drowning the character in ludicrous costumes (a Bat suit with nipples???), pun-filled foes, and whiney sidekicks in the lousy BATMAN & ROBIN. By then, Batman as cinematic property had become a laughingstock. Fortunately, indie film director Christopher Nolan reinvigorates the franchise in glorious form in BATMAN BEGINS, a reboot of the...
Batman is back! **Updated review to BluRay edition**
After years of not having a Batman film and mostly due to the franchise hitting bottom thanks to Joel Schumacher's disastrous "Batman forever" and "Batman and Robin", Christopher Nolan present us his version of the character with an impressive all star cast anda story brilliantly written by David S. Goyer.

The film

There were high expectations for this film before its release as if would it be as good as Burton's films, the truth is, there are no points to compare, Nolan and Burton visions are quite different from each other, but both respect the origins and essence of who the character is.

Goyer took some liberties in the storytelling that could be considered as unforgivable by many fans (Bruce's parents are originally killed after seeing "Mark of Zorro" at the movie theater, a fact that marks Bruce's mind with the idea of a masked vigilante) but also hints at stuff that the previous versions let pass unnoticed, the main focus of this film are the...
Flesh and Machinery
Christopher Nolan and his co-screenwriter, David Goyer have chosen to postpone the crossover of Bruce Wayne (a soulful Christian Bale) into Batman until half way through the new "Batman Begins."
And this is a crucial and important step that Nolan puts off until Bruce walks the earth in search of his own personal nirvana... in a sort of Christ-like journey to understand himself and his place in the world after his parents are brutally murdered. It is also from this quest that he acquires the knowledge and skills necessary for him to become a warrior, ready and able to combat the ills and rid his town Gotham of all evil-doers.
Nolan's "Batman Begins" is a more macho, masculine film than were the previous movies, which is not to take anything away from Tim Burton's elegiac, gothic and visionary takes on this story. But Burton's world is/was/ and will always be the world of the dreamer: his Batman is more sinned against than sinning. His Batman needs love and understanding...

Big Trouble In Little China: Special Edition Rocks!
...People back in 1986 did not understand Big Trouble In Little China. It's the kind of film you either "get" or you "don't get"...They were ahead of their time. Big Trouble In Little China is no different. Basically a Hong Kong action picture with stabs at humor, magic, mysticism and a touch of romance, "Big Trouble" clashed with the heroic heroes of the time... and instead gave us a lead character who's big on talk but usually not good at much else. Kurt Russell's Jack Burton is the type of character with an over-evolved sense of ego that never seems to match his less than perfect grasp of how to deal with real situations. The other difference here is that Jack is not the real hero, it's really Wang Chi(Dennis Dun), who shows us all the great Kung Fu moves and sword fighting styles... Jack Burton is more of the sidekick who thinks he's the head honcho but never seems to do anything right and when he does do something right it's usually because of blind luck. But that's the...
Two parts comedy, one part action
Director John Carpenter teams with Kurt Russell in this wonderfully unique spoof of the martial arts movie genre, and they hit on all cylinders in a film that is incredibly funny, surprisingly well-crafted, and just plain fun.
Russell takes advantage of Gary Goldman and David Weinstein's script to deliver the best comic performance of his career as his swaggering trucker Jack Burton blunders through Chinatown in an attempt to recover his stolen truck and his friend's kidnapped fiancee.
Masterminding the badguys is demon/ghost David Lo Pan, played wryly by James Hong. Hong parodies practically his whole career in this role, and has some priceless lines in so doing. His motive in the kidnapping is to marry a girl with green eyes, which will appease his demon-god and restore his lost vitality.
The plot grows more absurd and hilarious as the movie progresses and Burton and his companion, Wang (Dennis Dun) enlist the aid of local magician Egg Shen (Victor Wong) to...
Welcome to the Hell of the Upside-Down Sinners!!
The Critics shredded and diced this movie so I really went to the theatre expecting to see one sick puppy. Instead, I was delighted and I continue to be delighted every time I watch this marvelous movies. John Carpenter created an original howl of a time, with tongue firm planted through the cheek and simply went wild with fun and throw away lines, that will keep you coming back again and again. The Critics just did not get the JOKE!! Sigh...fortunately, the public did not agree.
A great cast Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, Kate Burton (Richard's Daughter), Victor Wong and James Hong take several wrong turns and end up in a war - kung fu style - kidnappings and all sorts "some very unreasonable things". Originally the manuscript for the second Buckaroo Banzai movie, Big Trouble hits bulls eye where BB just missed. It's over kill to the max, but such a great way to go as Jack Burton - Russell doing a BAD John Wayne Imitation - runs headlong into the magick...

Man From U.N.C.L.E., The: The Complete First Season (DVD)

In this hit spoof on the spy genre, Robert Vaughn and David McCallum star as a team of secret agents battling the global crime organization THRUSH. Under the aegis of the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), the dapper, suave Napoleon Solo (Vaughn) and the equally dashing Illya Kuryakin (McCallum) jet to exotic locations, defending the world from evil, chaos and bad taste. Premiering in 1964, this successful series also starred Leo G. Carroll as Alexander Waverly and featured guest stars such as William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy (of Star Trek fame), Kurt Russell as a young stowaway marked for murder, Ricardo Montelban and longtime comedy favorite Ken Murray. From trying to save the world from fear gas to trying to save themselves from a pack of bloodthirsty cheetahs, this spoof brings the spy game to life with vigor and vibrancy. You may even forget it's in black and white! Get your spy on with The Man from U.N.C.L.E!

Review :
We're from an organisation called the U.N.C.L.E.
Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) - Suave, seductive, and trained to kill. An American with only one weakness, Women.
Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) - Mysterious, calculating, and deadly efficient. A Russian with a temper and a great mind.

Together they are the MEN from U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement) together with their boss Alexander Waverly (Leo G. Carroll). They are highly trained spies with one purpose: to stop evil, and charm their way into our hearts. And their arch-enemy is an organisation called THRUSH (Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity). THRUSH is a supra-nation and an antithetical organization to U.N.C.L.E, whose inflexible purpose is to dominate the earth.

One problem though was that Illya Kuryakin (David) is just a co starring actor to the famous Napoleon Solo (Robert), but as the season goes on so does their partnership. Together they have a wicked sense of humor and...
Great News for the Fans from U.N.C.L.E.!!!!
All four seasons are finally here on DVD with plenty of extras. As noted elsewhere each season is packaged in one multi-disc set with a nice 4 page flyer listing the shows and actual presentation dates, as well as commentary on the season. Some here (and elsewhere) have complained about the pastboard briefcase that the full four season set is presented in, but I find it to be clever and handy. If you possibly can, buy all four seasons in one package rather than individually.

The transfers are quite good, much better than the vhs sets that were out many years back. The video and the audio is clean with few drop-outs or glitches noted (so far), but best of all the show holds up well. Those who loved it then will be entranced. Our children may find the show less amazing, as many of the gadgets envisioned then are really now in existence and the Bond series has so far surpassed the 1960's, but for those of us who were there, it is wonderful.

It's a shame that...
Open Channel D...Priority Traffic!
After all the legal intricacies, negotiations, and more time than it took to make a commitment to land a man on the moon and then accomplish it - they are finally here - the U.N.C.L.E. dvd's! I must admit that the complete collection is really nicely packaged, the quality of each episode is enhanced with a minimum of blemishes, and the extras are numerous and all-inclusive. The first season set provides some wonderful background with "The Cloak and Swagger Affair". The movie "One Spy Too Many" is also captured as an extra in the second season. The interviews with Robert Vaughn and David McCallum are both wonderful and insightful. THRUSH had better take note; "bad guys" of the world - time to go underground after forty years, cause' the boys are finally back in town.

For any armchair U.N.C.L.E. agent from the 60's, these are an answer to a prayer - but, why not wish for the rest of the U.N.C.L.E. movies like "To Trap A Spy", "The Spy With My Face", and the others...

This specific thing delivers exceeded own anticipation, this place has become a great upgrade on myself personally, The thought appeared correctly along with rapidly Justified: Season 1

Justified is the story of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), a true-blue hero and something of a throwback, given to wearing a Stetson and cowboy boots, carrying his sidearm in a hip holster – a weapon he only draws when he has to, and when he does, he shoots to kill, because, as he sees it, that’s the purpose of a gun. The character of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens was created by America’s pre-eminent crime novelist Elmore Leonard (Get Shorty, Out of Sight) and is played by Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Live Free or Die Hard). The Chief Deputy of the Lexington USMS office is Art Mullen, played by Nick Searcy (Cast Away, From the Earth to the Moon). Working alongside Raylan are fellow deputies Tim Gutterson – played by Jacob Pitts (The Pacific) – and Rachel Brooks – played by Erica Tazel (Life, The Office). Raylan, Art and the other deputies do what all U.S. Marshals do – chase down fugitives, protect witnesses, transport prisoners. Prolific and much-respected author Elmore Leonard's novels have fared poorly when they've been adapted to the small screen--remember Maximum Bob? Karen Sisco?--but the Western-cum-police-drama Justified breaks the losing streak thanks to the tightly wound performance of star Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood) and solid scripting and direction. Olyphant's Marshal Raylan Givens, whom readers met in the novels Pronto and Riding the Rap (as well as the short "Fire in the Hole," which serves as the basis for the pilot episode), is a man of few words and deadly aim who is sent back to his hometown of Harlan County, Kentucky, after shooting first and asking questions later with an oily gangster. Once ensconced in the coal belt, Givens runs afoul of childhood friend Boyd Crowder (the terrific Walton Goggins from The Shield), who's gone from mining to white supremacy and murder. Also competing for Givens's attention are local girl Ava (Joelle Carter), whose crush on the marshal doesn't quite obscure the fact that she's just murdered her husband, and his father, Arlo (the always-solid character actor Raymond J. Barry), whose criminal career is a millstone around Givens's neck. Justified is most compelling when it focuses on Crowder, who grows more dangerous as the series unfolds; when it sends Givens to pursue less complex criminals like dentist Roland Pike (Alan Ruck in "Long in the Tooth") or play hostage negotiator ("Blowback"), the results are fine but hew closer to standard TV police drama fare. What keeps the show out of that particular ditch is Olyphant's performance, as tightly wound as his turn on Deadwood but with a hint of grim humor; he's well supported by the cast, including Nick Searcy as his boss and M.C. Gainey (Lost) as Crowder's equally hot-wired father. An array of fine directors, including John Dahl (Red Rock West), actor Tony Goldwyn (Conviction), Rod Holcomb (The Good Wife), and Jon Avnet (Fried Green Tomatoes), also lends a cinematic quality to the episodes.

Extras include commentary by the cast and crew on four episodes, including the always-wry Olyphant on "Hatless" and executive producer Graham Yost (The Pacific) and director Michael Dinner on "Fire in the Hole." Leonard's influence on the series is explored in a 20-minute feature called "What Would Elmore Do?," which served as a mantra for the production team whenever they found themselves in a creative bind. Short, EPK-style featurettes covering the show's inception, Kentucky locations, and its marshal advisers round out the set. --Paul Gaita

Loving this show is Justifiable
As a heartbroken fan of Nip/Tuck, which just ended its 6 season run, I was keeping an eye out for another FX show I could enjoy. With FX, original series can be either hit (Nip/Tuck, Dirt) or miss (The Riches). Justified is a show I normally wouldn't have looked at even once. Being a city girl at heart, I'm not a fan of westerns or anything country. One thing I am a fan of is Timothy Olyphant. When I saw one of my favorite actors (brilliant in "Hitman") was going to be in a new show, I of course had to watch. A pleasant surprise awaited me.

It's as if Timothy Olyphant was born to be US Marshal Raylan Givens, a good ol' country boy with personal issues. After shooting a man in Miami old west style ("It was justified"), Raylan is punished by being sent back to his old home town in Kentucky to work the local cases, many involving people he knows. His estranged father, former best-friend-turned-criminal, an old flame and a complicated ex wife round out the engaging cast of...
A.k.a.: "In the Heat of the Night, the Kentucky Edition"...
Well, it is set in Eastern Kentucky, rather then in Sparta, Mississippi; still, Justified is bound to resonate with any fan of the groundbreaking In the Heat of the Night series: small-town-in-a-big-World problems being solved creatively in 60 minutes or less, but without the annoyingly preachy tone that In the Heat of the Night would sometimes assume. A definite positive! You'll have fun making character comparisons between the two shows (can you find a "Bubba"? how about a "Luanne"?).

Let me first note that Justified is a very new show; so far, only six episodes have been aired. However, the episodes carry such an unusually high degree of promise, I feel confident rating the series, even at this early stage, with the top score.

The story is simple: deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) brings too much negative attention to himself by killing one Miami thug too many... He is therefore relegated to a remote post to cool his heels. Unfortunately for...
Justified deserves to be seen
Never saw Timothy Olyphant until the promos for Justified and he was just an actor. Until the pilot episode and then I was hooked. He is a gem and becomes Raylan Givens. I have now taken time to see other movies and shows he has been in and I say again, he steps into the boots and puts on the hat...and Raylan Givens is alive and well. The humor on this show is subtle but wonderful. FX likes their shows edgy and this is edgy but great. We are now about to see episode 5 and if you have not given it a chance, please do. You will have no regrets. The supporting cast blends like good cheese to his fine wine. Again give this show a look-see and be amazed.
